Dorkness Rising FAQ

When is The Gamers: Dorkness Rising coming out?

The Gamers: Dorkness Rising will be coming out sometime this year, 2006. We are currently in post-production. Once we finish editing the movie, we can move on to the exciting process of finding a distributor. The distributor we find will be the entity responsible for DVDs, and any other method of seeing and/or owning the movie. They will also determine when that will happen.

Is The Gamers: Dorkness Rising a sequel?

Dorkness Rising is the second movie set in the Gamers universe. It is not a sequel per-se. Rather, it is set in the same world as The Gamers, and takes the themes and laughs of the first film and extends them to feature length. Due to the extended length, the gamers also have names and lives of their own apart from the gaming table, so more of the whole role-playing experience is shown and lampooned.

Is it a prequel?

No. Prequels suck.

When can I buy Gamers 2?

We don’t know. We didn’t make a sequel. We did make a movie called “The Gamers: Dorkness Rising”, which is a feature-length movie based on the concept of our original “The Gamers” movie. You can buy the DVD of “The Gamers: Dorkness Rising” shortly after our soon-to-be-acquired-but–still-unknown distributor sets a release date.

Will there be any girls in The Gamers: Dorkness Rising?

Of course there are girls in The Gamers: Dorkness Rising! Why wouldn’t there be?

Will Dorkness Rising take place in the same universe?

Yes. The fantasy world of the Gamers movies is called Fartherall. Any and all Gamers movies will be set in this world. The lands are different, but some locations in the fantasy world from the first movie will appear in the second.

Will Dorkness Rising have the same characters?

The characters from the first movie will not be appearing in the new movie. If you’ve seen The Gamers and remember how the movie ends, you’ll understand why.

What happened to the first characters?

Assuming you mean the fantasy characters from The Gamers, they’re still wandering around somewhere. It is known for certain that they continue to exist in the Hopjockey Universe. Look for them in the backgrounds of future pictures; they’ll probably be around.

Is The Gamers: Dorkness Rising finished yet?

Finished what? Finished production? Yes. Finished editing? No. The movie is being edited in L.A. by the very talented Daniel Capuzzi, and our very own Brothers Wolbrecht are scoring the movie.

How long did it take to write the script for Dorkness Rising?

The whole process took about seven weeks of writing and revising. That doesn’t including the months of tossing around ideas before we decided to go ahead with the script.

Did any fan input from The Gamers go into consideration for Dorkness Rising?

Absolutely. Everyone’s had crazy gaming experiences, and some of those are common enough that we’ve all had them. Through email and meeting fans at conventions, we’ve been deluged with ideas and suggestions of amusing gaming stories. Specific examples would be shared, but we don’t want to give away any spoilers. Not yet.

Will there be any “in jokes” for fans of the first film?

Of course.

Why are you making the film?

It’s either this, or get real jobs.

When is Gamers: Second Edition going to be available?

You must be referring to “The Gamers: Dorkness Rising” (G:DR). We dropped “Second Edition” from the title a while back because of two things: We didn’t want people to think it was a sequel (although there are some sequel-ish elements in the movie), and we didn’t want people to think we were using an outdated gaming system. G:DR is proud to be playing Dungeons & Dragons 3.5.

What game system does The Gamers use?

The original The Gamers movie used an unnamed system that is similar to “Dungeons & Dragons” without being “Dungeons & Dragons.” This was done for several purposes. First off, when the original movie was in production, “D&D” was still in its second edition, and we wanted to avoid copyright infringement. Now, though, with the revolutionary Open Gaming License in play, (not to mention the Wizards of the Coast product placement agreement we have) we can set the Gamers movies in the D20 System, and in the case of Dorkness Rising, D&D 3.5.

Can we expect a module for actual game play, based on the movie?

Yes. Spoiler #1: The Gamemaster in Dorkness Rising is working on a module he wants to get published. The module is the adventure that the gamers attempt to complete in Dorkness Rising. In reality, Goodman Games is going to publish the module based on the adventure and the fantasy world in The Gamers: Dorkness Rising. The name of the module will be “The Mask of Death,” part of Goodman Games’ Dungeon Crawl Classic series.

I have an enormous amount of money that’s just sitting around collecting interest and dust and I’d like to give it to you, and I absolutely refuse to be paid back even one penny of it, where do I send the money?

Avalivle what? How are we supposed to answer your question if you don’t tell us the criteria for something to be avalivle? Oh wait, maybe the inquirer is someone who speaks a foreign language… sounds French. We’ll have to get back to you on this one.

Where will I be able to view The Gamers: Dorkness Rising?

Aside from any festivals it gets entered into, The Gamers: Dorkness Rising will be screened at Gen Con Indy 2006. From there, we hope to make the movie available at either a theatre, cable outlet, video rental store, or website near you.

Hi-just wondering if there is any word on a release date for Dorkness Rising?

Two-thousand-six. Or is that technically three words? Any more specific than that, well that information is not avalivle yet.
